Community Potluck and Family Karaoke Night

It's the fourth year of bringing Grrrlz Rock to the Eugene community. The potluck is the perfect metaphor to express the idea of the festival as a gathering of delicious elements. The event will have limited structure, and everyone is invited to share their culture and entertainment within the concept of Grrrlz Rock. It will be an inclusive family environment. Everyone and anyone can meet, laugh and most importantly EAT. Everyone seems to connect over food! Also, in the past few years, Cindy Ingram, Grrrlz Rock founder, has struggled with how to easily describe the whole ever changing, ever growing GR festival. Here's what Cindy has to say about the potluck:

"Back when I first began I tried the concept of an umbrella. That GR was an overarching structure with many independent and collaborative events under it. That didn't feel right. It was too hierarchical and it did not accurately describe the complex diversity and expanding environment the festival was becoming. Music, dance, comedy, theater, workshops, health, family.. the experiences of women.... It all was coming from outside the conceptual umbrella.

Now I have begun to use the idea of a potluck. Grrrlz Rock is the "host" of a community wide gathering of friends and future friends that come together with a shared vision. Everyone brings what they can... that's the dish. Some bringing main dishes, some just some chips and dip. All are welcome and all are contributing in their own way. Together we make up a deliciously kick ass party that has become Grrrlz Rock 2009! I also figured that when I hold Pot luck gatherings at my house, it's easy to bring together people... I seem to host a fun party. Why not make it open for everyone?

Caught in the Act karaoke will be there to host an all ages, family style karaoke were group sing-alongs are encouraged.

Important info about the Potluck!
Donations of food for the Community Potluck and Family Karaoke event are greatly appreciated. Yes, individuals and families are encouraged to bring a dish to share, but restaurants, caterers, and local food businesses of any kind are encouraged to share as well. Also, limited vendor/non profit tabling space is also available. Would you like to sell your creafts? Educate the community about your projects? We'd love for you to join the party!
