SASS Women’s Self-Defense Workshop
Date: Sunday Nov. 22nd — 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Location: Amazon Community Center
Price: Free
Ages: 15+
Our philosophy of self-defense empowers women and girls to break down their internal barriers to self-defense (such as fearing being judged as rude or impolite) and gain new skills to be assertive, pro-active and resourceful when feeling uncomfortable or threatened by acquaintances and strangers.
We teach a combination of verbal, mental, and physical skills to use for self-protection and reducing the risk of assault, such as:
- How to yell effectively and confidently
- Gaining self-worth and confidence in physical and mental abilities
- Working to undo the victim blaming myths about abuse and sexual assault which are common in our culture
- Introduction to simple physical strikes to disable an attacker
- Introduction to basic assertive communication skills
