Alison Losik

For as long as she can remember, Ali Losik has been involved in music: singing, writing songs, and playing the piano. She began studying jazz in high school, earned her B.M. in Jazz Composition at the Lawrence Conservatory of Music in 2002, and her M.A. in Music Theory at the University of Oregon in 2007.

Playing gigs was Ali's passion, but in the midst of graduate school she was derailed by multiple sclerosis. Losing all feeling in her right hand, she feared that playing the piano would be out of the question. Since then, she has re-established a feel for the piano and changed her approach to playing, songwriting, and performing – she has honed her skills at scat singing and now incorporates the ukulele into her show. Ali's recent projects include writing "new jazz standards" (songs that are written in the style of the old standards), writing jazz-influenced pop, and reinterpreting rock favorites.
