Fiddlin' Big Sue
The Fiddlin' Big Sue Band is Sue and Tom Hunnel and Janet Nelson. More than three decades of fiddlin' and pickin' good old time music for a good old time has been the bands mainstay. Rooted in Old Time Fiddling, Bluegrass and Newgrass the banc presents a wide variation of many styles of music including their own, "SueGrass". Music for the whole family with toe tapping and hand slapping results in a "Good Old Time" for everyone! The group has performed in over a 1,000 venues, 8 states and 7 countries in the last thirty years. 12 live musicals, 2 vinyl lp's, 2 cassettes and a variety of CD's featuring live cuts from many different performances.
From 1974 to 1984 the band played under the "Whiskey Creek String Band" flag. Next they became "Fiddlin' Big Sue, Uncle T & Johnny" group until 2004. From 2004 'till 2008. Fiddlin' Big Sue from Eugene, Oregon. She has lived and worked here since 1975. Ten years on the road with The Whiskey Creek String Band, 20 years as the Fiddlin' Big Sue, Uncle T & Johnny Band mixed in with recording, musicals, concerts, quest artist on recording, TV commercials and Radio Promos and more. You can always count on her for something different, exciting and powerful.
Tom "Uncle T" Hunnel picks the guitar, mandolin, and tenor banjo for your listening pleasure. Most of the lead vocals fall to Uncle T and quite a bit of the stage chatter seems to emanate from his microphone. We are trying to get him to stop joking around but I think he is too far over the edge.
Janet Nelson cut her musical teeth in the jazz and blues scene of Eugene, Or and has been playing in the Pacific Northwest since 1980. Working with duos, bands and as a solo musician, she enjoys a wide range of genres and musical styles, and has found a new home with the Fiddlin' Big Sue Band.
Sidemen: They sit in when we have enough room for 5.
Thomas "Zane" Heifner hails from the country side just outside of Eugene. One of the original members of the Whiskey Creek String Band, Zane went on to host the West Side Blues Jam for the last twenty years. His love of the blues and blues rock make a welcome addition to the band. Zane writes and performs his original songs with the band.
George "Sticks" Filgate. Sticks has been keeping the beat for us since 1980. He makes his percussion kit sound like a complete drum kit! And he plays his necktie when the mood stikes him to!
As needed the band can expand to a five or even six piece group depending on the gig and the logistics.
